To the reader: I should like to call your attention to the description of this blog as our starting point. My thesis and belief is that a similar thing has happened to the thought of Luther and the other early theologians, ending with the Book of Concord of 1580/84 (German/Latin), as happened to the so-called "Angelic Doctor," Thomas Aquinas. What happens in his case is corrupting of his vision and intent in an effort to make his thoughts more systematized than he ever thought or intended to do. The Post-Lutheran Orthodoxy (the PLO, as I shall refer to their writings) in an attempt to systematize it actually turned back to the theological methodology of scholasticism, and in so doing, lost the freshness of Luther and his immediate comrades. This commentary thus leads to the first question of investigation: what did the Reformation give to the Church? Next time!
Cordially,
